The Origins of Platonic Press

Platonic Press was born from a simple belief: that the most profound ideas deserve to live beautifully, and that the world’s most interesting minds deserve books that reflect the care and depth of their work.

The press began during postgraduate studies at Cambridge, founded by a small group of students frustrated by how many meaningful ideas remained trapped within academic walls. This did not happen because people were not interested, but because the form too often failed the content. The ideas needed new vessels.

Our mission is simple: to create books that are as beautiful as the ideas they contain. We believe the object and the idea belong together. Every volume we produce is designed to be both read and kept, displayed and cherished: a meeting of fine printing, photography, and thought.

We publish slowly, in limited editions. Each book is printed with care on sustainable materials, bound in linen, and finished with care. Through our books, exhibitions, and events, we aim to make philosophy, design, and creativity visible.

Philosophy begins in wonder, Aristotle told us. So does good publishing. We invite you to wonder with us.
